Court Orders UNILAG and OAU to Halt 2025/2026 Admission Process Pending Hearing

The Federal High Court sitting in Enugu has ordered the suspension of all admission processes for the 2025/2026 academic session at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). The directive also affects the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which oversees admissions into Nigerian universities.

The interim order, issued by Justice A.T. Segun-Bello on Tuesday, followed an ex-parte motion filed by a group of candidates, including Chibuzor Success, Oyeleye Zainab Ayomide, Adedeji John Samuel, Monsura Aliat Aduragbem, and Bassey Daniel Nsikak. The applicants, representing other affected students, sought to restrain the institutions and JAMB from releasing, approving, or uploading admission lists for the new academic session.

Education technology expert and CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, confirmed the development in a post shared on his X handle.

While ruling on the application, Justice Segun-Bello noted that there was a “veritable and triable issue” requiring both parties to be heard. He therefore ordered all stakeholders to maintain the status quo, effectively halting the 2025/2026 admission exercise until further notice.

The matter has been adjourned to October 28, 2025, for hearing of the substantive motion.
