NECO 2025 SSCE Results Out: 60% of Candidates Score 5 Credits and Above

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE internal) results, 54 days after the last written paper.

Key Highlights of the 2025 NECO SSCE Results

• Total Candidates Registered: 1,367,210 (685,514 males and 681,696 females)

• Candidates Who Sat for the Exam: 1,358,339 (680,292 males and 678,047 females)

• Candidates with 5 Credits & Above (Including Maths & English): 818,492 (60.26%)

• Candidates with 5 Credits & Above (Irrespective of Maths & English): 1,144,496 (84.26%)

NECO Registrar’s Announcement

Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, NECO Registrar, announced the results at a press conference in Minna, Niger State. He stated:

“Number of candidates that registered for the examination is 1,367,210… Number of candidates that sat is 1,358,339… Number of candidates with five credits and above, including Mathematics and English is 818,492 representing 60.26%… Number of candidates with five credits and above, irrespective of Mathematics and English is 1,144,496 representing 84.26%.”

Examination Period

The 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination was conducted from Monday, June 16, to Friday, July 25, 2025.

Candidates with Special Needs

• Total Candidates with Special Needs: 1,622

  • Hearing Impairment: 586 males, 355 females

  • Visual Impairment: 111 males, 80 females

Examination Malpractice Update

• Total Malpractice Cases: 3,878 (61.58% reduction from 10,094 in 2024)

• Whole-School Cheating: 38 schools across 13 states will face sanctions

• Supervisors Blacklisted: 9 supervisors for misconduct, poor supervision, and insubordination

“We have also addressed a case in Lamorde LGA, Adamawa State, where communal clashes disrupted exams from July 7–25, affecting 8 schools, 13 subjects, and 29 papers. Talks with the state government are ongoing to reschedule exams.”

Revised Curriculum & Subject Reduction

NECO confirmed that, with the reviewed curriculum, the SSCE will now cover only 38 subjects, aimed at reducing waiting times for results.

Performance by State

• Top Performing States:

  1. Kano: 68,159 candidates (5.020%) scoring 5 credits & above including Maths & English

  2. Lagos: 67,007 candidates (4.930%)

  3. Oyo: 48,742 candidates

• Lowest Performing Centre: Gabon, with no candidate scoring 5 credits & above including Maths & English

NECO’s Transition to Computer-Based Test (CBT)

The Examination Council has announced the shift from Paper-Pencil Test (PPT) to Computer-Based Test (CBT), with several private and public schools participating in the first phase.
